Letter to the editor: Comparing presidents' honor of fallen soldiers

Tribune-Review

It was a damp, dark night on the tarmac at Dover Air Force Base on Feb. 11, 2020. President Trump, along with his vice president, had scurried away from a raucous campaign rally in New Hampshire to make a last-minute flight to the air base.

The president wanted to be onsite when the bodies of fallen U.S. soldiers were being received. There in the damp darkness of the night the commander in chief stood at attention as the bodies were taken from the C17.

Fast forward to Aug. 29, 2021: Standing in the bright sunshine on the very same tarmac at Dover Air Force Base, President Biden presented a totally different scene. To me, a man who is supposed to be the commander in chief looked every bit as interested in the ceremony as a child in time out.

According to Darren Hoover, father of fallen Marine Staff Sgt. Taylor Hoover, “… the checking of his watch, that didn’t happen just once. That happened on every single one that came out of that airplane. … They’d release the salute, and he’d look down at his watch.” How could you blame these parents for being upset with this man?

Biden’s decision to remove troops from Afghanistan dripped of narcissism. He has claimed the evacuation was a success and that he and his administration made no mistakes.

In my opinion, this was a disaster. It is chilling and makes clear the mistake Americans made voting for Biden. This truly was Biden’s Dunkirk.
