WR Donte Moncrief among inactives for Steelers' game against 49ers
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Wide receiver Donte Moncrief, who was benched last week after his dropped pass resulted in an interception, will not be active Sunday when the Pittsburgh Steelers play the San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium.
Moncrief started the first two games, but he did not play after a pass went through his hands on the first drive of the third quarter last Sunday contributed to a 28-26 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, He also had four drops in the season-opening 33-3 loss at New England.
Moncrief, who signed a two-year, $9 million contract with the Steelers in free agency, has caught three of 11 targets this season for seven years.
Also inactive for the Steelers are fullback Roosevelt Nix, linebackers Vince Williams and Anthony Chickillo, defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs and offensive linemen Fred Johnson and Chuks Okorafor.
Nix (knee) was ruled out Tuesday. Williams (hamstring) and Chickillo (foot) were ruled out Friday after the final practice of the week.
Active for the first time this season are rookie cornerback Justin Layne, rookie tight end Zach Gentry and linebacker Jayrone Elliott.
The inactives for the 49ers are quarterback C.J. Beathard, wide receiver Jalen Hurd, defensive back Jimmy Ward, running back Tevin Coleman, tackle Sam Young, tackle Joe Staley and defensive lineman Jullian Taylor.
