Westmoreland Sports Club welcomes Pittsburgh Warriors hockey team to next meeting
The Westmoreland Sports Club will meet again 7 p.m. Thursday for its latest social event.
This time, Sam Johnson and Dave Jackel of the Pittsburgh Warriors hockey team will speak to members and guests at Ferrante’s Lakeview in Greensburg.
The Warriors are a team of disabled veterans.
Johnson is a retired U.S. Army Colonel, and Jackel is a retired U.S. Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer.
“This is a fascinating organization about how veterans are helping other veterans re-integrate into society, and a lot of people may not know about it,” said Bob Colbert, president of the Westmoreland Sports Club. “When I asked what kind of fee they want to speak, they said, ‘We’d be honored to talk to you.’ ”
The nonprofit Westmoreland Sports Club hosts monthly dinner meetings.
Past speakers include former Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert; Dr. Joseph Maroon, a renowned neurosurgeon and Steelers doctor; former Pittsburgh Penguins center Tyler Kennedy; and former Major League Baseball manager Ken Macha.
The club also recognizes the accomplishments of county athletes. At the next meeting, it will honor Penn-Trafford football standout Joe Enick for winning the 2022 Bill Fralic Memorial Award as the WPIAL’s top interior lineman.
