Seton Hill looks to be playing some of its best softball late in the season.

The Griffins ran their winning streak to nine with a doubleheader sweep of Pitt-Johnstown on Thursday to move to 24-12 overall and 17-5 in the PSAC West.

Junior Brooke Cleland (Penn-Trafford) went 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs, and junior Nina Grandey had three hits, including a double, in a 9-4 win in the first game.

Freshman Kylie Hegland also doubled and drove in three for the Griffins, and junior pitcher Lauren Dellett (15-4) allowed five hits and one earned run in a complete-game win.

In a 12-6 victory in Game 2, Grandey had two hits and three runs, sophomore Brooklyn Fukushima homered and drove in four and sophomore Grace Paredes went 2 for 3 with a double.

Softball

Allegheny: Sophomore Sophia Godzak (Belle Vernon) doubled in a 7-4 win in Game 1, then drove in two runs in a 12-4 victory as the Gators swept a doubleheader from Washington & Jefferson.

Cal (Pa.): Junior outfielder Charity Henderson (Southmoreland) went 3 for 4 with a go-ahead RBI single in a 6-5 win over IUP.

Carlow: Senior Morgan Nedley (Penn-Trafford) went 7 for 7 in a doubleheader sweep of Brescia. She had four hits in the opener, including two doubles, in a 10-2 win in six innings. The shortstop went 3 for 3 with a double and three RBIs in the second win, an 11-0 final in five innings.

Nedley was named the River States Athletic Conference and United States Collegiate Athletic Association player of the week.

Robert Morris: Grad pitcher Dana Vatakis (Monessen) notched a three-hit performance in a 7-2 win against IUPUI. She tossed a complete game, allowing one earned run and striking out three. Vatakis put together her third straight complete game, allowing four hits and no walks while inducing 16 groundouts in a 3-0 win over IUPUI.

Men’s volleyball

Saint Vincent: Senior outside hitter Matthew Minkin was named to the All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference First Team, and freshman outside hitter Shawn McSwiggen was voted as the AMCC Newcomer of the Year while also receiving second-team honors.

Minkin led the conference in kills-per-set with 3.67 and was fifth with 2.61 digs and sixth in hitting percentage (.254). McSwiggen started all 21 matches and averaged 3.03 kills per set with a .252 hitting percentage. He was second in the conference with 44 service aces.

Men’s tennis

Saint Vincent: Kyle Murray was named the PAC Freshman of the Week. Murray went 3-0 in doubles and 2-0 in singles over the Bearcats’ 3-0 week.

Men’s track and field

Allegheny: Junior Jacob Boord (Hempfield) won the javelin in record-breaking fashion at the Jesse Owens Classic in Columbus, Ohio. Boord’s defeated 10 Division I athletes in a 19-man field with his throw of 64.76 meters to break his own program record.

Boord was named the PAC Field Athlete of the Week.

Senior Jake King (Latrobe) finished seventh in the hammer throw with a distance of 47.12 meters at the 53rd Sparky Adams Invitational at Baldwin Wallace. He also was 11th in the shot put (12.54).

Cal (Pa.): Senior Mason Jobe (Greensburg Salem) set a personal record in the 800-meter run with a time of 1 minute, 54.92 seconds to take third at the Mountaineer Showcase at West Virginia.

Southern Illinois: Sophomore Daniel Norris (Hempfield) threw the discus 57.96 meters to finish second at the Jesse Owens Classic at Ohio State. The distance ranks second all time in the event.

Westminster: Grad student Ryan Beard (Franklin Regional) finished third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.31 seconds at the Slippery Rock John Papa Invitational. He added a fifth-place finish in the 100 (10.86).

Women’s track and field

Cal (Pa.): Junior Malia Anderson (Greensburg Salem) reached an NCAA qualifying time in the 800-meter run while competing at the Mountaineer Showcase. She ran a career-best mark of 2 minutes, 10.67 seconds to finish fourth while competing unattached.

Clarion: Junior Courtney Kosanovic (Norwin) ran to a fourth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 13 minutes, 13.33 seconds at the John Papa Invitational at Slippery Rock.

Women’s lacrosse

Saint Vincent: Junior Bridget Doyle was named the PAC Offensive Player of the Week. Doyle had 17 points over three wins, netting 10 goals and adding seven assists. She had five goals and six assists in a win over Thiel.

Seton Hill: Redshirt sophomore Skylar Orlowski was named the PAC West Athlete of the Week. Orlowski had six goals and four assists, and added four ground balls, in a pair of conference wins.

Men’s lacrosse

Saint Vincent: Senior Jacob Visalli was named the PAC Offensive Player of the Week. Vicalli had 15 points, including 11 goals, in a pair of victories. He posted a career-high nine points (6 goals, 3 assists) in a win over Thiel.

Two of his teammates also won weekly awards. Senior Brody McMahon was the conference’s top defensive player, as he led a unit that allowed just four goals in two games. He also had a career performance against Thiel with eight caused turovers and just as many ground balls. Finally, sophomore Brady Beard was tabbed the specialist of the week. He won 25 of 32 faceoffs (78%).
