Westmoreland County campus clippings: Seton Hill linebacker earns elite honor

Seton Hill’s Jaylen McDuffie was named to the D2Football.com Elite 100 First Team.

Linebacker Jaylen McDuffie of Seton Hill continues to reap the benefits of a sensational senior football season.

McDuffie added another accolade as he was named to the D2Football.com Elite 100 First Team.

Just 25 players from across the nation made the first team.

McDuffie also was a finalist for the Cliff Harris Award, which goes to the top small-college defensive player in the country.

He was a D2CCA All-American and was picked as the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Year, to go with All-PSAC West First Team honors.

The 6-foot-2, 235-pound McDuffie, the career tackles leader at Seton Hill with 363 stops, had 118 tackles, including a conference-best 21 for loss and 11 sacks.

Men’s basketball

West Liberty: Junior Bryce Butler (Latrobe) had 23 points and six rebounds in 30 minutes as the No. 10 Hilltoppers defeated Bowie State, 103-78, to move to 11-1. It was the final tune-up before Mountain East Conference play.

A 6-foot-5 guard, Butler is averaging 23.8 points and 6.8 rebounds this season, while shooting 61.3% from the field.

Wrestling

Bucknell: Junior 133-pounder Kurt Phipps (Norwin) upset Iowa State’s Ramazan Attasauov, 7-4, to advance to the consolation semifinals of the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tenn. Attasauov was ranked No. 16 in the weight class. Phipps went on to finish fourth.
