Seton Hill’s Jack Oberdorf competes during the 2023 baseball season.

Seton Hill baseball has ruled the PSAC West, so it is no surprise the Griffins cleaned up in postseason awards.

Marc Marizzaldi was named the division coach of the year, while Jack Whalen (Norwin) picked up freshman of the year honors for the Griffins, who won their third PSAC title over the weekend and now will get ready to play in the NCAA Division II Tournament.

Whalen, senior third baseman Jack Oberdorf (Greensburg Salem), junior outfielder Brandon Bergert and sophomore closer Blake Barker were named to the first team.

Marizzaldi is coach of the year for a seventh time.

Whalen broke through with a .343 average, and led the team in runs (48) and stolen bases (40) going into the PSAC Tournament.

Oberdorf was hitting .341 with a team-high 11 home runs and 46 RBIs, while Bergert was 6-2 with a 2.93 ERA, and Barker was 4-0 with four saves and a 0.42 ERA.

Grad student first baseman Logan Vietmeier, senior shortstop Owen Sabol (Norwin), junior pitcher Jon McCullough, senior pitcher Kevin Vaupel and senior designated hitter Braden Durham were all second-team picks.

The Griffins (44-10) defeated West Chester, 10-0, to win their first PSAC title since 2018. They had 14 hits in the runaway win, their third that was subject to the mercy rule in their tournament run.

Rauso was named the PSAC Tournament MVP. He went 5 for 5 with three RBIs in the final.

Seton Hill earned the No. 2 seed for the NCAA Tournament and will host the Atlantic Regional No. 2. Their first-round game will be Thursday against Shippensburg (27-23).

Baseball

Cal (Pa.): Freshman relief pitcher Jake Kramer (Hempfield) made the All-PSAC West Second team.

Chorba was third on the Lakers with a .313 average, but led the team with 46 hits. He had eight doubles, four triples, three home runs and 24 RBIs.
