Seton Hill announced its 2022 Athletic Hall of Fame Class, the 11th class to be enshrined at the school.
The newest members include Christine Henderson Deneen (2015 graduate, softball), Alex Haines (2014, baseball), Joe Smith (2017, soccer), and Lauren Teed Clem (2016, volleyball).
The four former standouts will be inducted Oct. 7 at a special dinner, and they will be introduced at the Griffins’ homecoming football game 4 p.m. Oct. 8 against Clarion.
• An all-region and All-American player, Henderson Deneen was a four-time all-conference winner as a pitcher and top hitter. The Ligonier Valley alum had 42 pitching wins, a 3.42 ERA, and 397 strikeouts for her career, while batting .362 with 31 doubles, seven home runs and 97 RBIs.
• Haines was a star pitcher for the Griffins and holds program records for career strikeouts (281) and appearances (63). The 6-foot-4, 250-pound left-hander out of Hempfield won 24 games and posted a 3.65 ERA. Haines was an all-region pick and was named the WVIAC Pitcher of the Year twice. He was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 33rd round of the 2013 MLB Draft.
• Smith, from Castle Donington, England, was an all-conference and all-region player who scored 13 goals and dished out 18 assists over his college career.
• Teed Clem was a two-time PSC West Defensive Athlete of the Year, earned all-region honors and was an ECAC Division II All-Star. She had 2,450 career digs to go with 153 assists and 108 aces.
Women’s volleyball
Seton Hill: Sophomore Paige Cole was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Week for the second time in as many weeks. Cole helped the Griffins to a 3-0 record in the Seton Hill Tournament and finished with 52 kills and 30 digs, while hitting 46.8% for the weekend. She had a career high 27 kills in a win over Point Park.
Men’s soccer
Presbyterian College: Junior defender Connor Hudson (Franklin Regional) was named the Big South Defensive Player of the Week. Hudson helped the Blue Hose post a 2-0 shutout of ETSU. They held their opponent to three shots on goal.
Women’s soccer
Pitt-Greensburg: Freshman Megan Hickey was named the AMCC Offensive Player of the Week. She had three goals, including two game-winning scores, as the Bobcats went 2-1.
Women’s tennis
Pitt-Greensburg: Junior Emily Ruhlman was named the AMCC Player of the Week after she went 2-0 in singles and doubles for the Bobcats.
Men’s cross country
Saint Vincent: A pair of Bearcats swept the weekly PAC honors. Junior Tim Patterson was named the conference’s runner of the weel, while freshman Brady Sundin was the top rookie. Patterson won the SVC Invitational with a time of 26 minutes, 11.48 seconds, besting a 128-runner field. Sundin, meanwhile, was the top freshman finisher as the same meet as he took 13th in 27:33.87.
Women’s cross country
Cal (Pa.): Junior Malia Anderson (Greensburg Salem) was named the PSAC Athlete of the Week. She finished fourth out of 56 runners with a time of 19:33.1 at the Daeman Alumni Invitational in Williamsville, N.Y. Cal finished second overall.
Saint Vincent: Ths PAC Rookie of the Week award went to freshman Kristen Prince, who placed fifth at the 106-runner Saint Vincent Invitational in a time of 24 minutes, 18.77 seconds.
Men’s lacrosse
Seton Hill: Former Griffins standout Jacob Motiuk is set to play professionally. He was drafted by the Calgary Roughnecks of the National Lacrosse League. The fifth-round selection is the ninth player from Seton Hill to join a pro league.
