Westmoreland County campus clippings: Saint Vincent's Sydney Green shines at PAC indoor meet

Saint Vincent senior Sydney Green ran to a pair of top-two finishes at the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships in Youngstown, Ohio.

The Latrobe product clocked a personal-best mark of 5 minutes, 17.76 seconds in the mile to win by more than five seconds.

She added a runner-up in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:24.92.

Women’s indoor track and field

Clarion: Junior Jenna Uncapher (Hempfield) came in fifth in the pentathlon at the PSAC Championships with a score of 3,004 points. She was third in the high jump as she cleared 1.58 meters.

Duquesne: Sophomore Hannah Seitzinger (Belle Vernon) won the 500-meter run with a time of 1:13.40 at the Atlantic 10 Championships.

Sophomore Emily Brozeski (Norwin) finished second in the pentathlon with a personal-best score of 3,764 points. She took fifth in the long jump (5.64 meters).

Sophomore Sadie Wetzel (Latrobe) finished eighth in the high jump (1.64 meters).

Seitzinger teamed with Amy Allen, sophomore Faith Mucci (Latrobe), and sophomore Alyssa Willis to take sixth in the 1,600-meter relay (3:52.85).

Seton Hill: The distance medley relay of junior Darby Roth, senior Alexis Cunningham, senior Sydney Wolf and junior Alyson Taylor finished second at the PSAC Championships with a time of 12:05.56, a school record. Wolf earned a pair of all-conference honors at the meet. She also broke a school record in the 800-meter run, taking second in 2:16.52.

Wrestling

Bucknell: Sophomore 133-pounder Kurtis Phipps (Norwin) moved into the Intermat national rankings for the first time this season, taking the No. 32 spot. Phipps is 19-9, including 14-4 in duals.

Gannon: Senior Jacob Dunlap (Belle Vernon) captured a Super Region I championships, taking the 125-pound title with a 6-2 victory over Tyshawn White of Shippensburg in the finals.

Pitt-Johnstown: Redshirt sophomore Nate Smith (Franklin Regional) wrestled back to finish third at the NCAA Division II Super Region I Championships to advance to the national tournament March 11-12 in St. Louis.

Washington & Jefferson: Senior Jaden Datz (Southmoreland) finished third at the NCAA Division III Southeast Regional to earn a spot in the NCAA Championships. He improved to 29-4 at 165 pounds.

Men’s indoor track and field

Grove City: Sophomore Gabe Dunlap (Penn-Trafford) took fifth place in the pole vault at the PAC Championships. The former Warriors quarterback cleared 10 feet, 4 inches.

Saint Vincent: The foursome of freshman Aiden Jackson, senior Collin Wilson (Latrobe), junior Tyler Laugery (Norwin) and sophomore Joey Bujdos won a title in the distance medley relay, registering a time of 10 minutes, 50.03 seconds at the PAC Championships, where the Bearcats took sixth as a team.

Sophomore Tim Patterson finished second in the 5,000-meter run (16:05.57) and third in the 3,000-meter run (8:50.90).

Seton Hill: Senior Sam Hartman won the 60-meter hurdles title at the PSAC Championships. He did so in a new personal-record time of 8.13 seconds. He finished second in the 400.

Thiel: Freshman Keith Rager (Derry) finished eighth in the weight throw at the PAC Championships with a toss of 11.03 meters.

The Griffins’ distance medley relay of sophomore Noah Flaherty, freshman Andrew Smith, freshman Gabe McConville and senior Donavin Meriweather finished second and broke the school record by 20 seconds.

Junior Joe Piper (Latrobe) took second in the 200-meter dash (22.06 seconds).

Westminster: Senior Ryan Beard (Franklin Regional) was part of the winning 1,600-meter relay team at the PAC Championships. The team posted a time of 3 minutes, 26.98 seconds.

Men’s volleyball

Thiel: Freshman JC Govannucci (Norwin) had 11 kills, four digs and three blocks in a 3-0 win over Hilbert.

Men’s lacrosse

Saint Vincent: Senior Alec Richard put three goals in the net and assisted on a score, while junior Andrew Coholich scored twice as the Bearcats (2-0) defeated Mount Union, 7-5. Richard was named the PAC Offensive Player of the week, while teammate R.J. Kenna was tabbed the conference’s defensive player of the week.

Richard had seven points across two wins for the Bearcats. Kenna forced nine turnovers and corralled nine ground balls over a pair of wins.

Women’s lacrosse

Saint Vincent: Junior Joey Smith was named the PAC Offensive Player of the Week. She had an impressive 10 points — five goals, five assists — in a 26-5 rout of La Roche.

Seton Hill: Grad attacker Jaclyn Frank netted four goals and sophomore Piper Conlan added a hat trick and four assists to lead the Griffins to a season-opening victory against Shippensburg, 15-9.

Hockey

Saint Vincent: Jacob Holtzman scored three goals and Shane Stone made 27 saves in net for the Bearcats in a 6-1 victory over Allegheny in the College Hockey East semifinals.

The Bearcats fell in the Division 4 Championship to Case Western Reserve, 6-3.
