Westmoreland County campus clippings: Pitt-Greensburg women's tennis wins 1st AMCC title
Pitt-Greensburg is headed to the NCAA Division III women’s tennis tournament.
The Bobcats won the first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship in program history over the weekend.
Top-seeded UPG defeated No. 2 Penn State Behrend, 5-4, to complete a sweep — AMCC regular-season and tournament titles — while avenging a finals loss to Behrend from a year ago.
UPG finished 8-0 against conference opponents.
The doubles teams of Cathryn Rossi and Isabella Lane (8-7 tiebreak), and Abigail Rosman and Amber Sterrett (Derry) (8-3) picked up wins, before Lane used a tiebreak to win at No. 5 singles.
Sterrett (6-2, 6-3) and Rosman (6-4, 7-5) then won their singles matches to put the Bobcats ahead for good. Sterrett and Rosman were named to the all-tournament team.
UPG will play in the NCAA field for the first time, but the tournament won’t begin until May.
