Westmoreland County campus clippings: Pitt-Greensburg wins 3rd straight conference title in girls tennis

Burrell grad Isabella Lane helped the Pitt-Greensburg women’s tennis team win its third consecutive conference regular-season title.

Pitt-Greensburg celebrated a three-peat in women’s tennis.

The Bobcats (11-2) swept past Penn State Behrend for a 5-0 victory in the final of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament and their third straight title.

UPG advances to the NCAA Tournament in May.

Senior Abigail Rosman picked up an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles with senior Amber Sterrett (Derry) for her 100th career victory.

Emily Ruhlman and Eden Richey won, 8-3, in the first doubles match, while seniors Isabella Lane (Burrell) and Cathryn Rossi were winners at No. 2 doubles.

Lane and Sterrett sealed it with singles wins.

Women’s bowling

Saint Vincent: The Bearcats won the Grapvine Classic in Erie as sophomore Abby Justice was named MVP.

SVC, ranked No. 13 in the preseason Division II/III poll, collected eight wins and one loss at the event.

Justice’s best game was a 235 in a 905-767 win over Pitt-Greensburg.

Senior Jackie Koehler (234), freshman Skyy Nicholls (234) and junior Sabine Strickland (201) also rolled high games. Justice’s 1,073 total and 214 average set an SVC record. She broke her personal mark with 29 consecutive strikes and spares.

Justice and Strickland made the all-tournament team.

Freshman Daphne Stuber led the team with a 20.51 average in Baker format.

Men’s golf

Cal (Pa.): Junior Cade Patterson (Penn-Trafford) finished fourth at the Westminster Invitational for his third consecutive top-10 finish.

Patterson posted a round of 77 at the 18-hole event played at Avalon Field Club in New Castle.

Women’s volleyball

Thiel: Freshman Arin Delattre (Hempfield) had eight kills and six blocks for the Tomcats in a 3-1 loss to Geneva.

Waynesburg: Junior Jordan Stein (Norwin) was named the PAC Defensive Player of the Week. She racked up a season-high 45 digs, the second-highest total in the PAC this season, in a 3-2 win over Westminster.

Men’s swimming

Clarion: Junior Austin Prokopec (Penn-Trafford) and freshman Henry Miller (Southmoreland) teamed up to win the 400-yard medley relay in 3 minutes, 28 seconds, a time that was eight seconds faster than second, at the PSAC Fall Invitational. Miller added a win in the 50 free (21.29). In the PSAC Fall Sprint Frenzy, Miller was on the first-place 200 medley relay (1:35.93), 300 fly relay (2:35.38) and 300 breast relay (3:01.16) teams.

Washington & Jefferson: Freshman Daniel Jeffries (Hempfield) won the 100-yard backstroke in 58.04 seconds, while teammate and classmate Nathanial Harden (Hempfield) finished second in the 50-yard backstroke in 28.75 in a season-opening loss to Penn State Altoona.

Women’s swimming

Clarion: Senior Corina Paszek (Penn-Trafford) took third in the 100-yard butterfly, while junior Jordan Kutchak (Norwin) was second in the 50 free at the PSAC Fall Invitational in Carlisle.

Washington & Jefferson: Senior Amanda Graves (Penn-Trafford) was part of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay (1 minute, 47.27 seconds) and also took second in the 100 backstroke (1:08.84) in the Presidents’ loss to Penn State Altoona.
