When it comes to Conlan Greene, Temple can keep its redshirt.
The former Penn-Trafford standout, who played quarterback and defensive end last season in the WPIAL, is suddenly starting for the Owls at defensive tackle.
Injuries to teammates turned Greene into the next man up.
According to 24/7 Sports, defensive tackles Demerick Morris and K.J. Miles suffered season-ending injuries in preseason camp, which opened the door for Greene.
He was listed as the No. 2 defensive tackle but jumped into the starting lineup against Norfolk State when senior Jerquavion Mahone was injured.
Two weeks after that, defensive tackle Allan Haye suffered a season-ending knee injury at Tulsa.
Greene started against Norfolk State and made four tackles.
In eight games, the 6-foot-4, 280-pounder has 10 tackles.
Football
Allegheny: Senior Declan O’Brien (Norwin) pulled in five receptions for 80 yards and two touchdowns in a 27-3 win over Thiel.
Duquesne: Junior linebacker Gianni Rizzo (Norwin) made a team-high seven tackles, two for a loss, and had a sack as the Dukes shut out Sacred Heart, 27-0.
Grove City: Jack Jollie (Penn-Trafford) had seven tackles and a sack in a 56-14 victory over Bethany that secured the No. 21 Wolverines a share of the PAC title and a berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Mercyhurst: Grad running back Dustin Shoaf (Yough) ran for 62 yards and a touchdown, and freshman linebacker Eli Binakonsky (Hempfield) had a career-high nine tackles in the Lakers’ 58-19 loss to Cal (Pa.).
Seton Hill: Two straight wins constitute a winning streak for the Griffins, who took down Edinboro, 38-28, behind 496 yards of total offense, 321 rushing.
Redshirt sophomore Ky’Ron Craggette ran for 208 yards and two touchdowns, including an 86-yard run, and redshirt senior JaiQuawn McGriff added 90 yards and two scores.
Junior Mark Bails Jr. had five receptions for 165 yards and a touchdown.
Junior safety Toby Cline (Jeannette) had nine tackles, and sophomore linebacker Tristan Waldier (Yough) added eight for Edinboro.
Washington & Jefferson: Senior linebacker Justin Johns (Franklin Regional) made a team-high eight tackles and had a pass breakup as the Presidents defeated Case Western, 38-33.
William & Mary: Senior safety Marcus Barnes (Jeannette) made seven tackles and broke up a pass for the Tribe in a 34-24 loss to Towson.
Men’s cross country
Pitt-Greensburg: Sophomore Ethan Barrick broke his own school 8K record with a time of 27 minutes, 13.60 seconds to take seventh place at the AMCC championship at Delaware Park (N.Y.).
Saint Vincent: The Bearcats won their ninth PAC title and first since 2019.
They put up 56 points, 15 more than Washington & Jefferson, to take the win at the conference championship.
Senior Tim Patterson finished third overall in 26:10 to earn All-PAC first-team honors.
Junior teammate Ethan Wymer took seventh (26:30), and sophomore Brady Sundin was 13th (26:49).
Both earned second-team accolades.
The Bearcats’ Kevin Wanichko was voted the PAC Coach of the Year.
The Bearcats will compete in the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championships on Nov. 11 at Lock Haven.
Women’s soccer
Pitt-Greensburg: Sophomore Megan Hickey had two goals as UPG (12-5-1, 8-0-1) defeated Carlow, 5-0, to clinch at least a share of the AMCC title.
Robert Morris: Sophomore Malia Kearns (Penn-Trafford) was named to the All-Horizon League Second Team.
She made the all-freshman team last year.
Kearns has seven goals and three assists to lead the team with 17 points. She had four goals in one game.
Also for the Colonials, sophomore Paloma Swankler (Norwin) scored her first goal of the season in a 2-1 victory over Youngstown State.
Swankler added another goal as the Colonials opened the Horizon League playoffs with a 4-1 victory over Wright State.
Slippery Rock: Senior Sydney Patrick (Hempfield) had a goal and an assist for the Rock in a 3-2 win at Edinboro.
Westminster: Junior Brooke Horvath (Franklin Regional) had a goal and two assists to lead the Titans (14-3, 8-2) to a 5-2 win over Bethany in the PAC regular-season finale.
Men’s soccer
Cal (Pa.): Freshman Jake Gretz (Greensburg Central Catholic) scored his fourth goal of the season, and sophomore goalkeeper AJ Visco (Penn-Trafford) had an assist and also made fives saves as the Vulcans defeated Seton Hill, 3-2, for a PSAC West win.
Senior Jake Nebinski (Norwin) scored his first goal of the season in the next game, a 4-2 loss to Pitt-Johnstown.
Grove City: Junior midfielder Luke Kimmich (Franklin Regional) had a goal and an assist as the Wolverines toppled Washington & Jefferson, 7-0.
Sophomore forward Owen Zimmerman (Kiski Area) also had a goal in the win.
Pitt-Greensburg: The Bobcats edged past Penn State Altoona, 3-2, in the AMCC quarterfinals at Southmoreland and will make a return trip to the conference semis.
Sophomore Zander Plizga connected on a penalty kick in the 60th minute, his second goal of the game, to put UPG (9-5-2, 5-2-1) ahead for good.
Freshman Matt Armenio also scored for the Bobcats.
Women’s volleyball
Thiel: Freshman middle hitter Arin Delattre (Hempfield) was named the PAC Newcomer of the Week. She rallied 18 kills over two PAC matches, including 13 against Waynesburg.
Waynesburg: Junior libero Jordan Stein (Norwin) led the Yellow Jackets with 12 digs in a 3-0 victory over Thiel.
Men’s swimming
Saint Vincent: Sophomore Jacob Dzurica (Hempfield) was named the PAC Swimmer/Diver of the Week. He won seven times over a pair of dual meets against Allegheny and Penn State Altoona.
Villanova: Freshman Aiden Bunker (Franklin Regional) finished sixth in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 1:59.63 in a meet against Georgetown.
He was eighth in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.20).
Washington & Jefferson: Freshman Daniel Jeffries (Hempfield) was named the PAC Newcomer of the Week. He won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 58.50 seconds in a PAC meet against Westminster, and took second in the 200 backstroke in 2:12.99.
Freshman Nathaniel Harden (Hempfield) finished second in the 200 butterfly in 1:01.01.
Women’s swimming
Saint Vincent: Sophomore Emma Martz (Hempfield) won the 100 butterfly, 50 freestyle and 200 medley relay as the Bearcats defeated Penn State Altoona, 151-102.
Junior Abby Leskovansky, meantime, was named PAC Swimmer/Diver of the Week after she won three times against Allegheny (50 free, 200 back, 200 free relay).
Washington & Jefferson: Senior Amanda Graves (Penn-Trafford) won the 100 backstroke (1:07.60) and helped the 200 medley relay to a runner-up finish (2:02.50) in a dual meet against Westminster.
Freshman Morgan Baughman (Mt. Pleasant) took second in the 50 free (27.05) and 100 free (59.93).
