Westmoreland County campus clippings: Latrobe grad sets track & field record at Allegheny
Allegheny senior Jacob King likes to throw with a baseball hat on his head. He put a cap on the PAC Track and Field Championships with a title.
King, a Latrobe product, won the weight throw and broke the meet record in the process.
His heave of 16.85 meters shattered the former mark of 15.82, set by Chas Blango of Bethany in 2020.
Men’s indoor track & field
Grove City: Junior Gabe Dunlap (Penn-Trafford) finished third in the long jump with distance of 21 feet, one-half inch at the PAC Championships.
High Point: Junior Jack Tarosky (Norwin) helped the distance medley relay to a runner-up finish at the Big South Championships. Tarosky also took sixth in the mile.
Saint Vincent: The Bearcats celebrated a win at the PAC Championships as the distance medley relay of junior Tim Patterson, sophomore Braden Rankin, sophomore Aiden Jackson and senior Joe Bujdos took first in 10 minutes, 42.73 seconds. Bujdos ran to a second-place finish in the 800-meter run at the PAC Championships, registering a time of 1 minute, 54.35 seconds. Patterson also was third in the open 3,000.
Seton Hill: Senior Hunter Martin (Belle Vernon) captured the 60-meter hurdles championship at the PSAC Championships at Bucknell. He also finished fourth in the long jump. Martin’s 60 time of 8.11 seconds tied a school record. Sophomore Gabriel McConville also added a title, winning the mile-run. Freshman Angelo Allen finished fifth in the shot put with a program-record throw of 15.86 meters.
Waynesburg: Senior Andrew Kemerer (Yough) came in fourth in the triple jump at the PAC Championships. His placing mark was 40 feet, 4.75 inches.
Westminster: Grad student Ryan Beard (Franklin Regional) won the 200-meter dash title with a career-best time of 22.17 seconds at the PAC Championships in Youngstown, Ohio. Beard also claimed third in the 60-meter dash in 7.039 seconds, also a personal record.

Women’s indoor track & field
Clarion: Senior Jenna Uncapher (Hempfield) ran the third leg of the distance-medley relay that placed eighth at the PSAC Championships in a time of 12 minutes, 48.03 seconds. Sophomore Leah Perry (Derry) was ninth in the pentathlon, and ninth in the 60-meter hurdles. Her 9.58-second time in the hurdles is a top-10 mark in program history. Perry is now fifth, just ahead of Uncapher.
Duquesne: Junior Emily Brozeski (Norwin) didn’t just show up to compete at the Atlantic 10 Conference championships. She came to win. Brozeski scored a season-best 3,639 points to capture the pentathlon title at the conference meet at the Mackal Fieldhouse in Kingston, R.I.
Dukes sophomore Hannah Seitzinger (Belle Vernon) won the 500-meter run at the Atlantic 10 Championships with a time of 1 minute, 13.65 seconds. Seitzinger also teamed with junior Faith Mucci (Latrobe) to place third in the 1,600-meter relay in 3:52.07. Sophomore Sadie Wetzel (Latrobe) was eighth in the high jump.
Saint Vincent: Freshman Kristen Prince finished fifth in the 3,000-meter run, but did so with a school-record time of 10 minutes, 32.92 seconds at the PAC Championships.
Seton Hill: Senior Darby Roth took second place in the 800-meter run at the PSAC Championships. She also came in third in the mile.
Westminster: Freshman Abigail Painter (Ligonier Valley) recorded a fourth-place finish with the 1,600-meter relay in 4 minutes, 13.47 seconds at the PAC Championships.
Women’s swimming
Chatham: Sophomore Ali Cowan (Derry) posted a 3-meter diving score of 367.80, and a 346.35 in the 1-meter competition, at NCAA regionals at Ithaca College.
Shippensburg: Junior Alyssa Tomb (Penn-Trafford) finished fourth in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4 minutes, 33.24 seconds at the PSAC Championships. She also took eighth in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:09.32, and in the 200-yard breaststroke, posting a personal-best time of 2:23.41 in prelims. She was 18th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.74), and also ended up 10th with the 400 free relay. Sophomore Gracie Wetzel (Latrobe) took 21st in the 400 IM.
Men’s lacrosse
Saint Vincent: Sophomore Brady Beard was named the PAC Specialist of the Week. He helped the Bearcats to a pair of wins as he won 78% of his faceoffs. He had a goal and collected nine ground balls in a win over Juniata. His teammate, senior Brody McMahon was tabbed the PAC Defensive Player of the Week. He had 11 ground balls and caused seven turnovers in two wins.
Women’s volleyball
Waynesburg: Sophomore Jordan Stein (Norwin) led the Yellowjackets during the fall season with 447 digs. She will be a team captain next season.
