Allegheny College rising senior Jake Boord is putting his name into the transfer portal after his stellar track and field career ends with the Gators.
A Hempfield graduate and two-time NCAA Division III championships qualifier, Boord is laying the groundwork for a post-grad year at a new college home.
He will compete for one more season at Allegheny, then move on. Boord said the level at which he lands is not his chief concern.
“Ultimately, I’d love to find a spot at the next level,” he said. “I’m looking for a community to call home. Allegheny was special not because of track but because of the people around me.”
Because Allegheny does not offer a graduate program, Boord is unable to stay and pursue a master’s degree.
He will use the covid year from when he was a freshman at his next stop.
Boord, who is studying business analytics, is just as competitive now — maybe more — than the first day he threw at Allegheny.
“It’s an honor to be able to continue to compete, and I’d love to continue throwing well into my post-grad years, but education is at the forefront of this decision,” he said. “I’ll be looking for academic rigor in my new home, just like that of Allegheny.”
Boord had a record-setting junior season as he placed fourth in the javelin at the national finals with a throw of 63.91 meters, earning All-American honors.
