Westmoreland campus clippings: Westminster's Caterino scores national honor

Westminster junior Tyler Caterino (Monessen) was named the United Soccer Coaches Division III Men’s Soccer Player of the Week. Caterino notched the first hat trick of his career as the Titans defeated Saint Vincent, 4-0, to secure the No. 4 seed in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference playoffs.

Caterino helped Westminster to a 7-6 upset of top-seeded Geneva in the semifinals.

Washington & Jefferson: Sophomore Will Keber (Norwin) played all 10 games for the Presidents, who won the PAC title with a 2-1 win over Westminster.

Wrestling

Pitt: Assistant coach Luke Pletcher (Latrobe), a former Ohio State standout, qualified for the World Team Trials by placing fourth at 65 kg at the UWW Senior Freestyle Nationals.

Women’s golf

Point Park: Junior Olivia Stawovy (Greensburg Central Catholic) carded rounds of 86, 85 and 85 to finish 17th out of 40 players at the River States Conference Championships at Belterra Golf Course in Florence, Ind.

Men’s lacrosse

Seton Hill: The second-seeded Griffins (10-1) will host No. 3 Walsh in the Great Midwest Conference semifinals at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Junior Logan Gray was named the G-MAC Defensive Athlete of the Week and was named to the USILA Division II Team of the Week. Gray won 37 of 46 faceoffs in a pair of Griffins wins and finished with 27 ground balls. He also scored a goal for the Griffins in their win at Alderson Broaddus.

Women’s lacrosse

Seton Hill: The PSAC semifinals will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday as the Griffins (12-1), the No. 1 seed, take on No. 2 Mercyhurst.

Washington & Jefferson: Sophomore Becca Ghion (Yough) had three goals as top-seeded W&J rolled to an 18-3 victory over No. 3 Thiel in the PAC championship match.

Men’s golf

Notre Dame: Sophomore Palmer Jackson (Franklin Regional) placed 43rd at the ACC Championship, firing an 11-over-par 221.

Jackson played 18 rounds this season with a low round of 5-under 67. His best 54-hole score was a 9-under 207.

He averaged 1-under par (71.61). His best finish with fifth at Augusta Haskins Award Invitational.

Pitt-Greensburg: Senior Joe Doubt made the All-AMCC second team after he led the Bobcats with a 82.5 average during a shortened season. He tied for 12th at the Mt. Aloysius Invitational.

West Virginia: Senior Mark Goetz (Greensburg/The Kiski School) closed with a 2-under 68 for a four-round total of 18-over 298 and a tie for 42nd at the Big 12 Championship at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan. He made six birdies in the final round.
