Westmoreland campus clippings: Seton Hill's Jenna Osikowicz named All-American
Seton Hill grad student softball player Jenna Osikowicz is breathing rarefied air.
The Hempfield alum became the first softball player from Seton Hill to be named a National FastPitch Coaches Association All-American.
The outfielder was selected for the second team.
Osikowicz already had been named the PSAC West Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season.
She was leading the Griffins in batting average (.457), hits (75), runs (49), steals (20) and triples (9) as the team prepared to play in the NCAA Division II World Series in Denver.
She also had 11 doubles, three home runs and 30 RBIs.
Osikowicz and grad student teammate Morgan Ryan, her former teammate in West Point youth softball and at Hempfield, also were named D2CCA All-Americans. Osikowicz made the second team, while Ryan was an honorable mention selection.
Ryan, a Notre Dame graduate, was 18-2 with a 1.05 ERA before the World Series began.
Seton Hill went 1-2 in Denver to finish the season at 42-22.
Softball
Liberty: Freshman first baseman Courtney Poulich (Mt. Pleasant) is planning to transfer after one college season. She appeared in 19 games and scored five runs.
Baseball
Rutgers: Grad student pitcher Jared Kollar (Latrobe) was named to the All-Big Ten Conference Second Team. A key starter, Kollar is 8-2 with a 4.18 ERA in 15 games. The former Seton Hill pitcher has 82 strikeouts and 22 walks in 75 1/3 innings.
Youngstown State: Senior pitcher Chad Coles (Norwin) was 4-5 with a 5.31 ERA in 25 appearances for the Penguins, who won their first two games of the Horizon League Tournament.
Coles was second on the staff with 69 strikeouts and had 42 walks.
Men’s indoor track and field
Allegheny: Sophomore Jake Boord (Hempfield) finished 12th in the javelin with a toss of 61.56 meters at the NCAA Division III Championships in Geneva, Ohio.
Westminster: Senior Ryan Beard (Franklin Regional) helped the 400-meter relay team to an eighth-place finish in the preliminary race at the NCAA Division III Championships. The foursome posted a time of 40.80 seconds.
The team then one-upped itself with a seventh-place finish in the finals (41.38) to earn All-American status.
Men’s lacrosse
Seton Hill: Several Griffins were named to the USILA All-North Region teams, led by senior Logan Gray and grad student Thomas Hanulak, both first-team selections.
Senior Kage Williams made the second team.
Gray had 146 ground balls and won 68.2% of his faceoffs, while Hanulak had 46 goals and 72 points.
