Westmoreland campus clippings: Saint Vincent women's soccer adds Greensburg Salem grad to staff
Saint Vincent added some local soccer expertise to its women’s team.
Greensburg native Hope Creamer, who played at Greensburg Salem and coached the Greensburg Central Catholic girls, was named an assistant coach with the Bearcats and head coach Bryan Butler.
“Hope was a tremendous player and understands what it takes to be successful,” Butler said. “Her experience and tactical awareness, especially on the defensive side of the ball, will be a big asset to our program. She has a tireless work rate and is someone that will be able to guide and teach our players the right way. She is an exceptional person and I am thrilled to have her on board.”
A two-year assistant at the high school level, Creamer served as interim head coach at GCC for a short time when Olivia Kruger, who was since resigned, was on maternity leave.
Creamer also played for Barbarians FC, which won the 2014 National Futsal Championship. She has assisted that program off and on for the last two seasons.
Her father, Tim, is the head track and field coach at Point Park.
Men’s basketball
Saint Vincent: Former Bearcats standout Walter Bonds has joined D.P. Harris’s coaching staff as a graduate assistant. Bonds, who graduated in 2021, played point guard at SVC.
“We’re excited to welcome back Walter,” said Harris, who is set to begin his second stint with the Bearcats. “He was an extremely intelligent player and a hard worker, both on and off the court, and was a big part of some very successful teams here. He knows what it takes to win and will be a great role model for our student-athletes.”
Bonds, a Bishop Canevin graduate, wants to help turn the program around.
“Saint Vincent has become like a second home to me, so it’s an honor to return,” he said. “I’m looking forward to helping the men’s basketball team get back to winning championships. I can’t wait to get to work.”
