Westmoreland campus clippings: Palmer Jackson named all-ACC

Notre Dame’s Palmer Jackson earned all-ACC honors.

Notre Dame junior golfer Palmer Jackson, a Franklin Regional alum, was named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Team.

Jackson has nine top-10 finishes in 11 tournaments and averages 70.15, which ranks 16th in the nation. He made national watch lists for the Hogan Award and Haskins Award and will play in the Palmer Cup Team.

The No. 15 Irish are the No. 3 seed in the NCAA Regional going on this week at Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Men’s golf

Penn State Altoona: Freshman Nathan Graham (Norwin) shot rounds of 93 and 84, while freshman Logan Divald (Norwin) carded 79 and 93 as the Lions finished 37th out of 43 teams in the second round of the NCAA Division III Championship at Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla. The top 18 teams advanced in the tournament.

Westminster: Junior Sam Napper (Mt. Pleasant) posted a pair of 78s for a two-round total of 156 as the Titans tied for 28th (637) in the second round of the NCAA Division III Championship.

Men’s lacrosse

Saint Vincent: Junior attacker Jordan Billlet, junior midfielder Caleb Hawkins, junior defender Brody McMahon and senior goalkeeper Noah Sperling were named to the All-PAC First Team. Junior attacker Tyler Condrasky (Norwin) and sophomore defender Benjamin Wohlin (Franklin Regional) made the second team.

Seton Hill: The Griffins staged an thrilling rally to advance past Mercyhurst in the NCAA Division II Tournament. Down 5-1 late in the second quarter, they came back to win the North Region first-round game, 8-7. Redshirt sophomore Jack Ellis had a hat trick and an assist, while junior Layne Harich and grad student McGarity Harper had two points apiece. Redshirt senior Zak Estabrooks scored with 9 minutes, 12 seconds to play in the fourth quarter to give the Griffins a 7-6 lead.

Women’s lacrosse

Saint Vincent: Senior attacker Joey Smith and junior midfielder Kaylee Bandow were selected to the All-PAC First Team. Second-team picks included sophomore attacker Bridget Doyle and sophomore midfielder Maggie Edwards (Norwin).

Waynesburg: Junior Eve O’Sullivan (Latrobe) made the All-PAC team as an honorable mention. She led the Yellow Jackets with 22 goals and 24 points.

Westminster: Senior attacker Magen Polczynski (Norwin) was an All-PAC honorable mention selection after she scored a career-high 34 goals and added 13 assists.

Men’s tennis

Saint Vincent: Sophomore David Lynn was named to the All-PAC First Team, while senior Jon Oskin and freshman Jack Citrone were second-team selections in singles.

Men’s track & field

Grove City: Sophomore Gabe Dunlap (Penn-Trafford) took third place in the javelin at the Harrison Dillard Twilight Meet at Baldwin Wallace. His placing throw was 168 feet, 4 inches.

Seton Hill: Senior Alex Martin won two events at the Robert Morris Benson/Hodge Memorial Invitational in Moon. He took the hammer throw (51.38 meters) and the shot put (14.59), and also was second in the discus (41.25). Junior Cameron Sapola took first place in the javelin (51.58), senior Sam Hartman won the 400 (51.99 seconds) and 110 hurdles (14.31), and junior Hunter Martin (Belle Vernon) won the long jump (7.00 meters).

Westminster: Junior Ryan Beard (Franklin Regional) was part of the 400-meter relay team that broke a school record at the Marty Goldberg Gator Invitational in Meadville. The foursome finished in a time of 41.20 seconds. Beard and the relay squad also took second at the Harrison Dillard Twilight Meet at Baldwin Wallace in 41.35.

Women’s track & field

Allegheny: Sophomore Eva Martino (Franklin Regional) ran a leg of the winning 400-meter relay team that broke a school record at the Marty Goldberg Gator Invite with a time of 49.40 seconds. The old record stood since 2000.

Clarion: Junior Jenna Uncapher (Hempfield) reached the medal stand at the PSAC Championships, leaping 1.54 meters to take seventh in the the high jump.

Waynesburg: Freshman Megan Barry (Norwin) finished fifth in the javelin at the Harrison Dillard Twilight Meet in Berea, Ohio.
