Westmoreland campus clippings: Norwin grad Sam Wexell posts 11th career shutout

Norwin graduate Sam Wexell has posted 11 shutouts in her Ohio career.

This one was for all the bricks.

And Sam Wexell was a brick wall.

Wexell, redshirt senior goalkeeper, batted away and clutched shot after shot for Ohio University, posting the 11th shutout of her college career in a 2-0 victory over Miami.

It was the annual “Battle of the Bricks” game.

A Norwin graduate, Wexell had six of her game-high nine saves in the first half. She played all 90 minutes.

Women’s soccer

Pitt-Greensburg: UPG posted its sixth straight win and second shutout in a row, with a 7-0 victory over Hilbert.

Freshman Megan Hickey had two goals, while junior Becca Kubler and senior Ashley Lucas had a goal and assist each for the Bobcats (8-2, 1-0 AMCC).

Saint Vincent: Senior midfielder Jess Persin (Hempfield) scored a late goal to lift the Bearcats to their first PAC win of the season, 2-1 over Geneva.

Sophomore goalkeeper Madison Arnold was named the PAC Defensive Player of the Week. She allowed one goal and recorded a shutout as the Bearcats went 1-0-1.

Seton Hill: Freshman midfielder Jessica Molitoris had the only goal as the Griffins (6-1-3, 4-1-3) ran their winning streak to three with a 1-0 win over IUP.

Senior keeper Grace Kenyon had four saves, all in the second half, for the clean sheet.

Women’s volleyball

Saint Vincent: Senior Lindsey Kocjancic had 12 kills and 10 digs, and junior Luciana Polk added 10 kills and 15 digs to pace the Bearcats (10-4, 1-0) in a 3-1 victory over Westminster in PAC play.

Men’s golf

Washington & Jefferson: Sophomore Cade Patterson (Penn-Trafford) tied for ninth at the Guy and Jeanne Kuhn Invitational at Meadville Country Club, carding a 36-hole score of 149 (75-74).

His teammate, Chase Crissman (Penn-Trafford) was 27th (79-77-156).

Waynesburg: Sophomore Tyler Rollinson (Southmoreland) won his match for the Yellow Jackets during a tri-three-ball match with Kent State Tuscarawas and Bethany at Obglebay Resort (W.Va.).

Women’s golf

Washington & Jefferson: Sophomore Angelika Dewicki (Greensburg Central Catholic) finished 30th (89-93) at the Guy and Jeanne Kuhn Memorial Invitational at Meadville Country Club.

Men’s cross country

Westmoreland County Community College: Dante Frescura won the individual race in 30 minutes, 21.6 seconds and the Wolfpack placed first at the 8K Mt. Aloysius Invitational.

Women’s cross country

Cal (Pa.): Junior Malia Anderson (Greensburg Salem) led her team with a 57th-place finish (18:47.4), her fourth team-best finish of the season, at the Live in Lou Classic at Louisville.

Rose-Hulman (Ind.): Freshman Rebecca Testa (Norwin) finished a team-best 16th in a time of 26:01 in the Nike XC Town College Night Meet at the Lavern Gibson Championship Course in Terre Haute, Ind.

Saint Vincent: Freshman Miranda Cincotta was named the PAC Rookie of the Week. She place 43rd at the National Preview Meet in Michigan with a time of 23:10.9.
