West Virginia Wesleyan senior basketball player Brittany Stawovy, a Greensburg Central Catholic graduate, entered the NCAA transfer portal.

Brittany Stawovy is on the move.

After completing a four-year playing career at West Virginia Wesleyan, the senior basketball player has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Stawovy, a Greensburg Central Catholic graduate, is unable to continue with a post-grad program, so she is looking to play one more season somewhere else, possibly closer to home.

Stawovy averaged 10.4 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 17 games for the Bobcats this season. She made a team-high 24 3-pointers and also led the team in steals (23) and minutes per game (32.1).

Charlotte: Sophomore guard Cali Konek (Franklin Regional) played in five games this season for the 49ers (10-12) and averaged 2.8 points in 42 minutes. She scored eight points against North Carolina with a pair of 3-pointers.

Men’s basketball

Allegheny: Freshman forward Michael Noonan (Latrobe) scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a 108-81 win over Penn State Altoona to open the season.

Grove City: Senior guard Justice Rice (Monessen) scored his 1,000th career point as the Wolverines lost to Westminster, 73-62, in the PAC championship game. Rice finished with 10 points and five rebounds in the loss.

He led Grove City (8-4) in scoring with a 14-point average and also grabbed 5.3 rebounds.

Rice scored a career-high 25 points for the fourth-seeded Wolverines in a 91-85 victory over No. 2 Geneva in the semifinals.

Baseball

Geneva: Junior pitcher Deven Judy (Belle Vernon) got the start and went five innings and struck out four, but the Knights lost to Davenport, 16-6. Judy is 0-2 in three starts.

Kansas State: Junior Zach Kokoska (Latrobe) hit a two-run homer in a 7-1 win over New Mexico, then went 2-for-5 with three RBIs in a 6-4 loss to the Lobos. Kokoska is hitting .281 with a team-high seven home runs and 18 RBIs.

Penn State: Redshirt freshman Josh Spiegel (Penn-Trafford) delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning for the Nittany Lions in a 6-5 win over Maryland. Spiegel had three hits and two RBIs in the victory. Spiegel leads Penn State with a .371 batting average and is tied for the lead in home runs (3) and RBIs (8). He transferred from Oklahoma State.

Saint Vincent: Freshman Tyler Becker delivered a single in the bottom of the 10th inning to score sophomore Jordan Sabol (Penn-Trafford) and give the Bearcats (4-2) a 12-11 win over visiting Bethany. Sabol, who leads SVC with a .524 batting average, had two hits and scored twice, and also walked four times.

In a 14-4 win over Bethany, senior TJ Dailey went 3-for-5 with a triple, home run, three RBIs and four runs, while junior Justin Wright (Hempfield) had three hits and four RBIs, and grad student Jimmy Malone added four of the Bearcats’ 21 hits.

Seton Hill: The Griffins remained perfect on the season with a come-from-behind 8-7 win at Ashland as grad student Tommy Pellis (Greensburg Central Catholic) went 3-for-5 and drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning, and junior Brandon Kline threw out the potential tying run to end the game.

It was the team’s first road game of the season.

Sophomore Owen Sabol (Norwin) homered, and senior Jamie Wrabel had two hits and two RBIs for the Griffins.

Seton Hill (8-0), ranked 17th in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division II Top 25, followed that performance up with a 12-3 win over Ashland as senior Derek Orndorff doubled, homered and drove in three, and junior Isaiah DiAndreth (Hempfield) and senior Tyler Peterson each had two hits.

Thiel: Grad student Andrew Giesey (Penn-Trafford) had three hits and scored twice as the Tomcats won by an 8-7 score over Westminster.

Waynesburg: Junior pitcher Joe Sabolek (Belle Vernon) tossed six innings, allowing three runs on six hits, to earn the win as the Yellow Jackets clobbered Geneva, 15-3.

WCCC: Sophomore Tommy Kegerreis (Franklin Regional) hit two solo home runs, but the Wolfpack lost to CCBC Catonsville, 8-7. Kegerreis was hitting .450 through six games.

Softball

Robert Morris: Freshman Faith Miller (Southmoreland) went 3-for-3 with a double to pace the Colonials in a 9-2 loss to Green Bay.

Seton Hill: The Griffins opened a four-game series against Pitt-Johnstown with a doubleheader sweep Saturday by scores of 5-1 and 4-2. Grad student Alexis Vargas tripled and drove in three runs, while seniors Nichole McClendon and Allison Kapoll each had two hits for Seton Hill.

In Game 2, grad student Chrstiana Skrabak (Norwin) homered and tripled, and freshman Lauren Dellett also homered in the victory.

UPJ redshirt junior Olivia Porter (Southmoreland) and senior Stacey Walling (Hempfield) each doubled in the second game.

In a 10-1 Seton Hill win Sunday, Vargas homered twice and Skrabak added a grand slam. And in more dramatic fashion, freshman Logan Hartman ripped a sharp grounder to second base to score Kapoll for a 3-2 walk-off win.

Porter had a triple in the loss for UPJ.
