Seton Hill is anticipating a potentially big season in softball this season, which begins this weekend.

The Griffins, who were 7-10 when the 2020 season was halted last March over the pandemic, is No. 2 in the PSAC West preseason coaches poll.

Top returnees include grad student Alexis Vargas, who was hitting .426 last season with two home runs, 14 runs and nine RBIs, and senior Jenna Osikowicz, a Hempfield grad who had a .390 average.

Sophomore Shaelynn Myers also returns as the team’s top pitcher. She had a 4.17 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 40 1/3 innings.

Gannon is ranked No. 1, followed by Seton Hill, IUP, Cal (Pa.) and Mercyhurst to round out the top five.

The PSAC will be divided into two divisions this season. West Chester is the favorite in the East.

Seton Hill is scheduled to host Wheeling Feb. 20.
