Westmoreland Campus Clippings: Belle Vernon's Judy rolling in awards

Junior Devin Judy can bring the heat, and the hard-throwing pitcher from Gannon is raking in the awards as a result.

Judy, a Belle Vernon graduate, received a pair of accolades after a strong outing against nationally ranked Mercyhurst.

The right-hander was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Week and also was tabbed the PSAC West Pitcher of the Week.

He tossed his first complete game of the season and struck out 12 in a three-hitter as the Knights defeated No. 23 Mercyhurst. He surpassed 200 strikeouts for his career and posted his 13th win.

Saint Vincent: Sophomore Jordan Sabol (Penn-Trafford) is among the Bearcats’ top hitters with a .412 average. He leads the team in hits (14) and runs (13) and has four RBIs.

SVC is 6-4 overall and 5-2 in the PAC.

Thiel: Grad student Andrew Giesey (Penn-Trafford) scored three runs on two hits and two walks in a 12-8 win over Franciscan.

Westmoreland CC: Sophomore Noah Sweeney (Greensburg Salem) is among the top hitters for the Wolfpack with a .412 batting average and leads the team with 13 runs. He also has two home runs and eight RBIs. Freshman Reid Admundson (Greensburg Salem) is hitting .417, and sophomore Tommy Kegerreis (Franklin Regional) has a .400 average and four homers.

Softball

Cal (Pa.): Senior Alexa Pastor (Hempfield) showed a flair for the dramatic in a recent victory for the Vulcans at renovated Lilley Field. The shortstop put together a career day and delivered a walk-off hit in a 6-5 victory over Slippery Rock in eight innings.

Pastor ripped a one-out single to right to score sophomore Mackenzie Carson in home half of the eighth for Cal (Pa.), which also won the second game of the doubleheader 4-2 to stretch its winning streak to seven.

Freshman Charity Henderson (Southmoreland) had a two-run single to tie it 5-5 with two outs in the seventh.

Pastor had a career-best three hits and drove in two runs. Henderson reached base four times.

Penn State: Junior Bailey Parshall (Belle Vernon) tossed 5 1/3 innings and struck out eight, and junior Chelsea Bisi (Derry) returned to action and had two hits, as Penn State defeated Nebraska, 7-5, to snap a 15-game losing streak.

It was the fourth game of the season for Bisi, who had offseason knee surgery.

Pitt-Greensburg: The Bobcats split a doubleheader with Penn State Behrend, winning the second game 12-7, to improve to 2-7-1. Sophomore Haley Liccketto had three hits and four RBIs in the two game whiles. Junior Brittany Dunn (Burrell) had two hits and four RBIs, and freshman Taylor Bojtos (Ligonier Valley) and junior Jaden DiFilippo each scored three runs for the Bobcats.

Pitt-Johnstown: Redshirt junior Olivia Porter (Southmoreland) is leading the Mountain Cats with a .378 average, 11 runs and 11 RBIs. She has five doubles, two triples and a home run for UPJ (3-9).

Robert Morris: Junior Dana Vatakis (Monessen) pitched back-to-back complete games to improve to 5-4 as the Colonials downed Oakland, 4-0. She retired 11 in a row the previous day in a 4-3 win over the Grizzlies.

St. Francis (Pa.): Freshman Ashley Orischak (Hempfield) has started 13 games for the Red Flash (19-6). She has scored nine runs.

Seton Hill: The Griffins improved to 15-5 (12-2 PSAC) by winning three of four games against IUP. In a weekend doubleheader, Seton Hill won by scores of 7-1 and 6-1 as senior Nichole McClendon went 5 for 8. Senior Sam Estupinian had a double and three RBIs in the first game, and senior Jenna Osikowicz had two hits and a double in Game 2.

Freshman Logan Hartman and sophomore Shaelynn Myers each pitched complete games with Hartman allowing two hits. Hartman was named the PSAC West Pitcher of the Week.

McClendon leads the team with a .439 average and 29 runs. Osikowicz is hitting .431, grad student Christiana Skrabak has five home runs and 19 RBIs and junior Morgan Toal is hitting .422 with nine doubles and 13 RBIs.

Hartman is 7-0 with a 0.86 ERA, and another freshman, Lauren Dellett, is 6-3 with a 1.72 ERA and 63 Ks.
