Aaron Pierce ran two interceptions back for touchdowns, a 97-yarder and a 50-yarder, in a span of 2 minutes, 11 seconds in the second quarter to lead Westminster to a season-opening 66-7 victory over Capital on Thursday.
Vincent Giles and Jarred Kohl also ran interceptions back for scores as the Titans tied the NCAA record with four interceptions returned for touchdowns
Slippery Rock 62, Wayne State 37 — Quarterback Ronald Rivers III had an opener to remember for Slippery Rock, completing 23 of 30 passes for 405 yards and six touchdowns and running nine times for 62 yards and another score. Jermaine Wynn Jr., Henry Litwin and Cinque Sweeting caught two touchdown passes apiece.
Gannon 14, Southern Connecticut State 7 — Jimmy Keefe threw third-quarter touchdown passes to Melvin Blanks and Joey Cox to lead the Golden Knights. Gannon’s defense intercepted two passes and forced two turnovers on downs in the second half.
Mercyhurst 21, Lake Erie 16 — Garrett Owens ran for 117 yards and two touchdowns to lead Mercyhurst.
