West Virginia canceled its game Saturday against No. 11 Oklahoma at Milan Puskar Stadium after an increase in positive covid-19 cases and contact tracing within the football program, director of athletics Shane Lyons said Thursday.
It is the second time the Oklahoma game was called off by WVU officials. It was postponed Nov. 28, but this time it won’t be rescheduled. The entire football program has gone on pause, including workouts, for the next seven days.
“Our intent is to get this spread under control as soon as possible for the health and safety of all involved,” Lyons said in a statement. “We are beyond disappointed not to play our final home game of the season and honor our seniors, but we need to act now and reevaluate our situation after Dec. 17.”
The Mountaineers are 5-4, with a 4-4 record in the Big 12.
