The final arrangements have been made, and now it’s time to play baseball at the West Point Little League Complex in Hempfield.

Eight teams from across the state have convened in Westmoreland County for the start of the Pennsylvania Little League 8-10 state championship. Action gets underway at 10 a.m. Tuesday with the first of four games. Newtown will face Morrisville in the first game of the tournament.

Blue Mountain and St. Mary’s will be played at 12:30 p.m.

Opening ceremonies to be at 3 p.m., followed by two evening games.

Abington faces West Side at 4:30 p.m., and Somerset tangles with Hermitage, which defeated West Point in the Section 2 tournament, at 7 p.m.

The double-elimination tournament continues Wednesday with four more games. The losers’ bracket games are 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., and the winners’ bracket games are 4 and 6:30 p.m.

“It’s nice that sections across the state will be competing,” District 26 Tournament director Don Thomas said. “Everything is in place, and we’re excited to get started.”

West Point Little League has worked the past season preparing for the tournament. League president Tom Rennie said details for the tournament were finalized July 11. Excela Health is the main sponsor of West Point Little League.

“It’s an honor to be selected to host the state tournament,” Rennie said. “The state knows our league can host the state tournament because we’ve done it well in the past. We know what we are doing.”

The tournament runs through July 31 (Aug. 1, if necessary).
