Cliche? Sure.

But the Golden State Warriors have been there before, and they sure acted like it.

The Warriors took out a congratulatory full-page ad in the Toronto Star, honoring the Toronto Raptors’ first NBA championship.

The Raptors defeated the Warriors, 4-2, in the NBA Finals.

“The Golden State Warriors congratulate the Toronto Raptors on their historic achievement and bringing the 2019 NBA Championship to the City of Toronto,” the ad reads.

Below the text is a photo of Golden State’s Steph Curry hugging Toronto’s Kyle Lowry after title-clinching Game 6.

The Raptors’ title — Toronto’s first in the four major North American sports since the Blue Jays won the World Series in 1993— stopped the Warriors from winning a third consecutive championship. They have been to the Finals each of the past five seasons, winning titles in 2015, 2017 and 2018.
