“Inexcusable and embarassing.”
No, that wasn’t Todd Haley describing his stints as offensive coordinator of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns.
That was Haley describing Thursday night’s helmet-swinging melee between the teams, when Myles Garrett ripped quarterback Mason Rudolph’s helmet off and hit him in the head with it.
Haley, who was on SiriusXM’s NFL Radio on Friday morning, pinned the incident on Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens.

“This falls squarely right on the head coach,” Haley said. “The head coach talks to every assistant coach, who then talk to their groups of players. There’s an old saying in coaching: ‘You’re either coaching it or you’re allowing it to happen.’ “
Haley lamented some of the things he says he saw during his time in Cleveland, including “practicing a lack of self-control.” Haley says Garrett’s actions — including what he says are repeated instances of hitting quarterbacks high and low — are not an accident.
“When I watch the Cleveland Browns, I see a lot of stop being allowed to happen,” Haley said. “It’s happening too much. It’s not just a fluke.”
