Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford traded Olli Maatta to the Blackhawks for forward Dominik Kahun.

In this week’s “Madden Monday” podcast, Mark Madden and I discuss whether Jim Rutherford did the right thing by trading Olli Maatta to Chicago. We also investigate the quality of the return in Dominik Kahun.

Maatta took a lot of grief in Pittsburgh. We debate whether it was warranted. Another topic about the trade is how Kahun will fit in with his new club. Is he more of a Bryan Rust or a Dominik Simon?

The Pirates won a series against the Marlins, but that isn’t much to build on. The concept of trading either Starling Marte, Felipe Vazquez — or both — may be coming into focus soon.

Mark is not a fan of the direction of where we are going with instant replay in sports. So we rip on the latest twist in the ongoing saga of what the NFL wants to do with replaying pass-interference calls.

The running back situation is worth examining coming out of minicamp for the Steelers. I think it can be argued that the Steelers are messing with James Conner a little bit too much. I’ll see if Mark shares that opinion.

And I ask the question: Is it just me? Or has there actually been a lot more NBA talk in Pittsburgh this year?

And if so, why?
