1979 World Series champions Tim Foli and Phil Garner take part in a pregame ceremony before the Pirates game against the Phillies Saturday, July 20, 2019, at PNC Park.

In this week’s “Madden Monday,” Mark Madden of 105.9 the X joins me to preview the 2019 Steelers training camp. Are we relying too much on “addition by subtraction” for hope this year? We also kick around a few position concerns such as cornerback, safety and kicker.

Then we get into the Browns and whether the prospect of them contending is a threat or just hype.

Mark just came back from South Bend, Ind., where he watched his beloved Liverpool Football Club in an exhibition match. We discuss the state of soccer in the U.S.

Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald theorized that technology is ruining live events such as concerts and games. Mark and I try to figure out whether he is right.

Finally, we dive into the Pirates and the melancholy state of the weekend series vs. the Phillies. The celebration of the 1979 World Series team was fantastic. But it was a little sad, too. Because it was a reminder of how long it has been since the Pirates have been in the World Series.

And how far away they are from ever going back.
