Sunnehanna Amateur delayed by storms
It wouldn’t be a Sunnehanna Amateur if weather didn’t interrupt play during the 72-hole event.
That’s what happened Friday at the 82nd edition at Sunnehanna Country Club in Johnstown: Thunderstorms delayed play for the second time in three rounds.
Second-round leader Jackson VanParis, who shot a 9-under par 61 during Thursday’s second round, made it through six holes before play was stopped. He’s at 10-under par for the tournament
He holds a four-shot lead on nine players who are tied for second at 6-under.
In that group are Ian Gilligian, Keaton Vo, Chuan-Tai Lin, Jimmy Zheng, Johnny Keefer, Maxwell Ford, Riley Lewis, Yuki Moriyama and Sampson Zheng.
Neal Shipley is tied for 11th at 5-under par, Murrysville’s Jackson Palmer is 1-under and tied for 37th and Venetia’s Jimmy Ellis is at even, tied for 47th.
Area golfers not expected to make the final round are Gregor Meyer, Andrew Friend, Nathan Smith, Brady Pevarnik, Tanner Johnson and Jimmy Meyers.
The third round will conclude Saturday morning followed by the final round in the afternoon.
