Steelers vs. Cowboys: What they're saying in Dallas after win

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott avoids the rush against the Steelers on Sunday at Acrisure Stadium.

What’s heartbreak in Pittsburgh is a thriller in Dallas after Sunday night’s Steelers game against the Cowboys.

After allowing a fourth-down touchdown pass with 20 seconds left in the game early Monday morning, the Black and Gold lost to the Cowboys, 20-17, at Acrisure Stadium.

The loss came on a night when the opening kickoff was delayed for an hour-and-a-half because of lightning strikes and heavy rain. The game ended at 12:59 a.m.

The Steelers and Cowboys are both now 3-2.

The Dallas Morning News described the game as a “back-and-forth, mistake-filled affair” capped by Dak Prescott’s game-winning drive and touchdown pass to Jalen Tolbert, sealing the game early Monday morning.

The newspaper said while Prescott was the hero, the Cowboys’ defense deserves the praise after the dramatic win.

”The Dallas Cowboys defense lost another edge rusher to injury but mostly kept the Steelers in check in a 20-17 win Sunday night,” the newspaper wrote.

“I don’t care how it look, that’s a dub.”

The Cowboys were “extremely shorthanded” going into the primetime game, wrote K.D. Drummond of CowboysWire. Almost right off the bat, the team lost Marshawn Kneeland — who was filling in for DeMarcus Lawrence and Micah Parsons — to a knee injury. Offensively, things didn’t appear much better, with Prescott fumbling first and then throwing a red-zone interception later, adding a third turnover in the second half on a deep pass.

But none of that mattered, Drummond wrote, thanks to Rico Dowdle’s and Tolbert’s career days. Dowdle ran for 87 yards and had a 22-yard touchdown reception early in the fourth quarter to cap a 16-play, 90-yard drive that put Dallas up 13-10.

Drummond also complimented the Cowboys’ defense.

“Dallas was able to corral Steelers QB Justin Fields, who was coming off a 300-passing yard performance last week,” he wrote. “Fields had two passing touchdowns but accrued just 131 air yards and 27 on scrambles and designed runs.”

There’s one thing I can say about this #Cowboys team regardless of the outcome:

If it weren’t for the late-game heroics, the Cowboys would have been staring at a sloppy loss and a lot of questions, reports NBC Dallas-Fort Worth. Instead, they just have a lot of questions.

“Overall, the Cowboys offense played a game filled with missed opportunities, led by their recently re-signed quarterback,” the article said. “Not only did Prescott throw an interception in the red zone, he also fumbled in the red zone as T.J. Watt got his 100th career sack and threw a second interception into double coverage in the fourth quarter.”

No idea what Dak was thinking there.

So much "this is going to be okay" feelings immediately turning into "everything still sucks" ones

The station also took a shot at the Steelers, saying the team remains in “NFL purgatory.”

“What the Steelers revealed with their loss, in which the Cowboys gave them what seemed like every break, that they are the team they were last year, and through most of the recent Mike Tomlin era: A formidable opponent with no real shot at a Lombardi Trophy,” it said.

Ouch.
