The Pittsburgh Steelers cleared one roster spot Saturday afternoon by trading offensive lineman Jerald Hawkins to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in an exchange of 2021 draft picks.

The Steelers will receive Tampa Bay’s sixth-round selection in the 2021 draft. Tampa Bay will get the Steelers’ seventh-round pick in 2021.

Hawkins, a 6-foot-6, 305-pound tackle from LSU, was the team’s fourth-round pick (No. 123 overall) in the 2016 draft, but he missed two of his three seasons with the Steelers because of injuries. He spent last year on injure reserve with a knee injury and had fallen behind Zach Banner and 2018 third-round pick Chuks Okorafor on the depth chart.

Hawkins appeared in five games, making one start, with the Steelers in 2017, his lone healthy season.

The Steelers have to reach the 53-man roster limit by 4 p.m. Saturday.
