Pittsburgh Steelers season ticket holders began receiving their 2022 invoices Friday, and at least in some sections, the cost of attending games at Heinz Field continues to go up.

Ticket price in the lower bowl near the enclosed end zone were increased for the third consecutive year. A season ticket that cost $1,276 in the 2018-19 seasons — the last time prices remained stagnant in that area of the stadium — will cost $1,509 for the upcoming season.

Tickets in the upper portion of section 130 saw a price hike of approximately 5% in 2022 even though the Steelers are playing one fewer regular-season home game than in 2021. Last year, the Steelers had nine regular-season games and one in the preseason. This year, the Steelers will play eight of their 17 games at home during the regular season after hosting two in the preseason.

Ticket prices for the 2020 season were set before the pandemic that greatly reduced capacity and resulted in the Steelers playing more than half of their home games without any fans in attendance. Fans were permitted to return to games in 2021 with some restrictions, and the Steelers had an average attendance of 60,488, which is about 8,000 below Heinz Field capacity.

In 2019, the Steelers averaged 62,237 fans at their eight home games.

“From an attendance point of view, we don’t like having that many no-shows,” team president Art Rooney II said in January. “We’ve done some research on it, and I do think that the pandemic played a role in that. Certainly, it was an unusual season in that our highest-attended games were actually the night games. There are some different things going on that we’ve got to study and understand.

“I think the bottom line is from what we’ve seen across the board, there’s still strong demand for our tickets. I think if we can get back closer to normal, I think we’ll see that attendance go back up. I think, all in all, our fan enthusiasm is strong, and I think people are looking forward to kind of seeing what’s next.”
