Steelers reduce individual ticket supply as social distancing measure
Individual tickets went on sale Friday morning for Pittsburgh Steelers home games, but the entire allotment was not made available to the public because of a potential disruption from the coronavirus pandemic.
Steelers spokesman Burt Lauten said the organization withheld 50% of the ticket inventory as a precaution.
“We are being proactive with these limited amount of tickets as we are preparing for possible social distancing scenarios at Heinz Field this year,” Lauten said on Twitter.
Any tickets not sold will be made available for purchase at a later date.
The NFL is planning to play its entire slate of games, with the Steelers playing their first preseason game Aug. 14 at Heinz Field. Contingency plans are in place, however, in case games are postponed or canceled because of the coronavirus outbreak.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell sent the 32 teams a memo two weeks ago that detailed a uniform refund policy in the event games are not played or take place with a limit on the number of fans in attendance.
Ticket holders who purchased directly from the club will be entitled to a full refund or a credit toward future ticket purchases.
The Steelers had an original deadline of May 1 for season-ticket holders to pay for their seats in full, but they pushed that date to June 1 as a concession to the pandemic.
Under the terms of the tickets being released Friday, fans can purchase up to eight tickets per household in any combination for the eight regular-season games. There was no ticket limit for the two preseason games.
Tickets were divided into four variable pricing tiers for the 2020 season:
• Premier: Philadelphia (Week 5), Baltimore (Week 12).
• Black: Denver (Week 2), Cleveland (Week 6), Indianapolis (Week 16).
• Gold: Houston (Week 3), Cincinnati (Week 10), Washington (Week 13).
• Preseason: Tampa Bay (Week 1), New Orleans (Week 2).
Tickets can be purchased by visiting ticketmaster.com.
