The Pittsburgh Steelers should be close to full health Sunday night when they play the New England Patriots in the season opener at Gillette Stadium.

Coach Mike Tomlin didn’t detail any injuries Tuesday at his season-opening press conference but indicated “some of those” injured players will practice Wednesday.

Safety Sean Davis did not practice Monday because of an ankle injury he suffered in the third preseason game. Tomlin said he “didn’t know” if Davis would return Wednesday.

If Davis can’t play against New England, the starter at free safety will be first-year player Kameron Kelly, who spent the spring playing in the Alliance of American Football.

“I like what I’ve seen from Kam Kelly,” Tomlin said. “He had a good preseason, and I have a great deal of confidence in him.”

Outside linebacker Ola Adeniyi returned to practice Monday after having knee surgery three weeks ago. Davis and Adeniyi have the most significant injuries among players on the 53-man roster.
