Steelers keep special teams player Miles Killebrew from testing free agency with 2-year deal
One of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ free agents will be staying with the organization for the next two seasons.
The team signed safety and special teams standout Miles Killebrew to a two-year, $4 million contract Friday, according to NFL Network.
Killebrew, 28, could have hit free agency next week after earning $1.275 million last year, his first with the Steelers. He had seven tackles on special teams and had the second and third blocked punts of his six-year NFL career. His block against Buffalo in Week 1 was recovered in the end zone for a touchdown, and his block in Week 12 at the Los Angeles Chargers led to a touchdown.
Killebrew played 68% of all special teams snaps last year and was on the field for just 44 plays on defense.
The Steelers have 13 other players set to hit unrestricted free agency when the 48-hour legally tampering period opens Monday.
