Kevin Colbert will remain with the Pittsburgh Steelers for at least one more year.

The Steelers announced Monday that Colbert, 64, has signed a one-year contract extension that runs through the 2022 NFL Draft.

Colbert has been employed by the Steelers since 2000, serving first as director of football operations and then gaining the title of vice president and general manager in 2011.

Colbert has been working on a year-to-year basis since requesting not to have his contract extended in July 2019. He cited his age as a reason not to seek a longer contract.

“It has been such an honor to be in this position with the Steelers for over 20 years,” Colbert said in a statement released by the team. “I want to thank Art Rooney for his continued support in extending my contract another year. We’ve been able to accomplish some great things, but my determination to help the Steelers reach our ultimate goal — to win another Super Bowl — has never been greater.”

The Steelers are coming off a 12-4 season and first-round playoff loss to Cleveland. They haven’t won a playoff game since after the 2016 season.

Colbert said last month that he was more concerned about managing the team’s roster — the Steelers had 19 players head into unrestricted free agency Monday — than his future with the organization.

“Fortunately, they are willing to work with me on a year-to-year basis,” Colbert said. “And, quite honestly, that is all we deserve because we have to continue to prove ourselves each and every year.”
