Each day of Steelers training camp, the Trib rounds up some things to pay attention to during practice at Saint Vincent:
WHAT TO WATCH
Return to normalcy: The pomp and circumstance of the Friday Night Lights practice is over, and FanFest at Heinz Field isn’t until Sunday, giving the Steelers one day this weekend to practice in the familiar setting at Saint Vincent. Coach Mike Tomlin has ramped up the situational aspects of practice in recent days. One event that hasn’t taken place is the goal-line drill, which could occur today or Sunday night.
Start up the starters: Ben Roethlisberger and several other offensive and defensive starters either were given the Friday session off or were limited to individual work. Roethlisberger is expected to return to a full day of practice. JuJu Smith-Schuster, Donte Moncrief, Bud Dupree, Joe Haden and Maurkice Pouncey, among others, should be in uniform and participating.
Walking wounded: The Friday night practice wasn’t without a few casualties as rookie wide receiver Diontae Johnson left early with a hip injury. Linebackers Vince Williams and Anthony Chickillo each departed with hamstring injuries that coach Mike Tomlin believes are minor. Their availability Saturday will be worth watching.
Practice time: 2:55-5 p.m., Chuck Noll Field
