Steelers camp preview: Grind continues, but will weather cooperate?
Each day of Steelers training camp, the Trib rounds up some things to pay attention to during practice at Saint Vincent:
WHAT TO WATCH
Back to work: The Steelers return to practice after getting their first day off during training camp. The rest came at a good time for some players nursing minor injuries. Free safety Sean Davis missed practice Monday after leaving early Sunday with a finger injury. Wide receiver Donte Moncrief then exited with a finger injury Monday, but he returned from the locker room with his finger wrapped in ice. Outside linebacker T.J. Watt (hamstring) could be nearing a return from the PUP list.
Strong start at safety: The injury to Davis leaves 2018 first-round draft pick Terrell Edmunds as the lone healthy starting safety. Edmunds became the starter at strong safety in last year’s training camp when since-released Morgan Burnett injured his hamstring. Edmunds ended up starting 15 games as a rookie, and the Steelers are counting on him making significant improvement in his second NFL season.
Weathering the storm?: The Steelers enjoyed nothing but clear skies and searing sunlight on the first four days of training camp. That could change Wednesday when scattered thundershowers are in the forecast for the Latrobe area in the afternoon. This could require the team using the adjacent turf field that was put into use last season.
