Steelers among NFL teams giving extensions to fans to pay for season tickets
In this difficult financial climate created by the coronavirus pandemic, most NFL teams are granting fans extra time to pay for their season tickets for the 2020 season.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are among them.
The team sent an email to ticket holders March 20 informing them the deadline to pay for tickets was pushed to Monday, June 1.
The prior deadline was Friday, May. 1.
“As a valued season ticket holder of the Pittsburgh Steelers, we understand the current situation with COVID-19 is a challenging one for our local community and for our fans around the world,” the Steelers wrote in the email.
The team informed ticket holders that employees are working remotely and able to help with questions by calling or emailing the organization.
“If they are going to delay payment, we’re going to jump all over it,” said Murrysville’s Jon Wallace, who shares tickets with his father-in-law, Leo Joyce, also of Murrysville. “I think it’s a great thing they are doing right now for obvious reasons.”
According to an Associated Press report, the Steelers are among 28 NFL teams that have offered extensions or negotiations on a case-by-case basis. The Denver Broncos gave fans a Feb. 1 deadline for final payment.
The Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers and Cincinnati Bengals haven’t changed their ticket payment policy, according to the AP.
“There’s a lot of people who are being incredibly affected by this crisis and may not have the funds available to complete the purchase of their season tickets,” Ravens president Dick Cass told the AP.
The Ravens announced Tuesday on Twitter that final payment has been extended from May 15 to June 15.
“We’re dealing with a lot of season ticket holders who have been with us 20 years and we don’t want to lose them,” Cass said. “So we’re going to work with them and hopefully we can find a solution that works for everybody.”
The New England Patriots have extended final payment until June 30. The Minnesota Vikings, like the Steelers, have given their ticket holders until June 1 to complete payment. The Miami Dolphins are offering deferred payments.
The Green Bay Packers have braced for the possibility of the NFL not playing a complete season because of the pandemic.
“While the Packers expect to play a full schedule in 2020, ticket holders are reminded of the policy on canceled games,” the team told the AP. “If a game is canceled and cannot be rescheduled, or is played under conditions that prohibit fans from attending (for example, if a public authority restricts gatherings to no more than a small number of people), season ticket holders will receive a refund for the impacted game(s).”
