Pirates center fielder Starling Marte celebrates his home run next to Brewers catcher Erik Kratz during the first inning of the first game of a doubleheader Saturday, July 14, 2018, at PNC Park.

The Pittsburgh Pirates activated Starling Marte from the injured list, just in time for him to start in center field and bat second Tuesday night at the Texas Rangers.

Marte injured his abdominal wall and suffered a rib contusion in an April 19 outfield collision with shortstop Erik Gonzalez, who suffered a broken left clavicle. Marte was slashing .203/.247/.377 with two home runs and nine RBIs in 16 games before his 10-day stint on the IL.

To make room for Marte, the Pirates optioned outfielder Jason Martin to Triple-A Indianapolis. Martin slashed .229/.289/.286 with no home runs and two RBIs in 17 games for the Pirates.
