Seton Hill softball, women's lacrosse qualify for NCAA Division II tournaments

Seton Hill’s softball team will play in the NCAA Tournament for the third time in school history.

The Griffins are one of five teams from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference that were selected Monday. The others selected are Kutztown, Bloomsburg, Mercyhurst and Shippensburg.

Seton Hill earned the second seed in the Atlantic Region and will meet seventh seed Clafin in the first round Thursday at Shippensburg’s Robb Field.

Shippensburg, the No. 6 seed in the Atlantic Region, will serve as host of the regional. The Raiders will meet third seed Bloomsburg in the other first-round matchup Thursday.

The Griffins enter the tournament with a 36-10 record. Bloomsburg is 28-18 on the season while Shippensburg is 31-18. Clafin, the CIAA Champion from Orangeburg, S.C., enters with a 21-13 record.

The other Atlantic Regional will take place at No. 1 Kutztown. It will take on eighth seed and Mountain East Conference champion Fairmont State, while No. 4. Mercyhurst will face No. 5 West Virginia State.

The two winners of each regional will meet in a best-of-three Atlantic super regional May 19-20. The super regional winner will advance to the NCAA Division II Softball Championships from May 26-31, at The Assembly Athletic Complex in Denver, Colo.

Griffins qualify again

The Seton Hill women’s lacrosse team will play in the NCAA Tournament for the third straight postseason.

The Griffins earned the third seed in the Atlantic Region and will meet second seed West Chester in the first round at 3 p.m. Friday at East Stroudsburg.

Seton Hill (14-4) finished as PSAC West champion before falling to West Chester (16-2) in the PSAC semifinal.

East Stroudsburg (17-1) earned the top seed in the region after winning the PSAC championship. East Stroudsburg will meet fourth seed Mercyhurst in the other Atlantic Regional semifinal at 11 a.m. Friday. The semifinal winners will meet in the final at noon Sunday.

The East Region features top seed Stonehill, along with second seed Adelphi. LeMoyne and Mercy complete the field.

The four regional winners will advance to the national semifinals and finals May 20 and 22 in St Charles, Miss.
