Robert Morris men fall short at Oakland
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — Trey Townsend’s 30 points led Oakland over Robert Morris, 69-65, on Thursday night.
The Colonials (8-10, 3-4 Horizon League) were led by Kahliel Spear, who recorded 21 points, 10 rebounds and two steals. Robert Morris also got 20 points, seven rebounds and two steals from Enoch Cheeks. Michael Green III had nine points and seven assists.
“It’s a frustrating one, for sure, because we just weren’t ready to go,” RMU coach Andrew Toole said. “I thought despite falling down as much as we did early, we put ourselves in a spot to try and steal it, but we just couldn’t get the stops we needed. In some of those moments you have to be able to step up, keep a guy in front of you and get a stop.
“We just had too many breakdowns. Once you spot someone 14 points and then claw your way back sometimes it’s tough to get over the hump. We just couldn’t come up with the plays we needed to make.”
Townsend added seven rebounds for the Golden Grizzlies (7-11, 5-2). Blake Lampman scored 18 points and added four steals.
Robert Morris visits Detroit Mercy on Saturday.
