RMU's Vatakis snags dual-honor from NEC
Dana Vatakis is a rare dual-award-winner in the Northeast Conference this week.
The freshman softball player at Robert Morris was named NEC Pitcher of the Week and Co-Rookie of the Week.
A Monessen graduate, Vatakis made five appearances last week for the Colonials (5-20, 0-1), carding three complete games and a 2-2 record.
Vatakis has allowed just one earned run across her last 15 innings. She helped lead the Colonials past Penn State and fellow Mon-Valley standout Bailey Parshall, 4-1, as she allowed five hits.
She struck out a season-high six in a 1-0 loss to UMBC.
For the season, Vatakis is 4-7 with a 4.10 ERA and six complete games. She has 23 Ks and 22 walks.
