Registration is open for the 2021 Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon.

“We’re excited to get people back to the start line in May,” said Troy Schooley, CEO of P3R, the organization that puts together the Pittsburgh Marathon each year.

“Hopefully, we are able to do that. Registration has been open for only a couple of hours, and it’s been going pretty well so far. The response has been great. It makes us really happy to see that people want to get back with us.”

Race officials said they are hopeful they can host a safe in-person event, and registration currently is for in-person events only.

Covid-19 concerns canceled this year’s races on the streets of Pittsburgh, but several thousand competed virtually with many continuing to raise money for special causes.

Past marathon events have attracted more than 40,000 runners

“I think with events of this magnitude, people want that on their calendar,” Schooley said. “For some, it might be their first half marathon or full marathon. For others, it’s a tradition they want to continue. They want that goal and they want to be able to stick to it. That’s why a lot of people like register early.”

Marathon weekend is scheduled for April 30 to May 2 and will include the full marathon, half marathon and marathon relay on May 2 and the 5K, kids’ marathon, toddler trot and pet walk on May 1.

Early discount pricing for each race continues through the first week of registration.
