The Boston Red Sox got a three-run seventh inning off Sam Howard for a 6-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday in a rain-shortened game at LECOM Park.

The game was called after 7 1/2 innings.

Jett Bandy broke a tie game with a sacrifice fly to center for a 4-3 lead, followed by Josh Ockimey’s two-run home run to right.

Mitch Keller allowed a two-run homer to Jarren Duran in the second inning. The right-hander allowed three hits and one walk on 33 pitches, striking out three batters.

JT Riddle’s sacrifice fly cut it to 2-1. Jose Osuna’s RBI double tied it at 2-2 in the third. Michael Chavis homered off Robbie Erlin in the fifth to give the Red Sox a 3-2 lead, but Cole Tucker’s RBI single in the sixth tied the game.

After missing all of last spring following shoulder surgery, Gregory Polanco started in right field and played six innings for the Pirates, going 1 for 3 with a single.

The game also marked the return of reliever Nick Burdi, whose season ended last April when the right-hander injured his arm. He return from thoracic outlet syndrome surgery to strike out two batters.
