Woman scores free tickets after blocked view at home Pirates game
A Ross woman, who possibly had the worst view in PNC Park when she took her seat at a Pittsburgh Pirates game, is getting two free tickets courtesy of the ballclub.
Danielle Jones had purchased the ticket a few weeks prior to see her daughter, a University of Pittsburgh cheerleader, participate in gameday activities on the field before the July 20 Pirates game against the Philadelphia Phillies.
She spent $62 on the seat — 318, row R, seat 9. When she arrived for the game, she noticed her view was completely obstructed.
With her seat placed directly behind a large structural support pole, Jones had to sit legs spread apart and lean side to side to see the field.
A TribLive staffer noticed Jones’ unfortunate seat during the Saturday night game and approached her. Jones said she had not been alerted by the ticketing office that the view was obstructed.
She decided not to keep staring at the beam. After a lap around the stadium, Jones said she was unable to find a place to watch her daughter and gave up.
The seat is one of roughly 30 seats in the last row of several sections in the 300 level with an obstructed view.
Jones reached out Monday to the account executive, that sold her the ticket over the phone, to tell him about the issues with the seat’s obstructed view. On Wednesday, she received a reply.
“PNC stated that they are looking into completely getting rid of those seats. They also offered for me and my daughter to come to a game,” Jones said.
On Thursday, Pirates spokesman Brian Warecki said that PNC will not be removing any seats from the stadium at this time.
He said that the account executive possibly had a miscommunication, and confirmed that Jones and her daughter would be receiving tickets for two seats near home plate for an upcoming game.
