Pirates acquire right-hander Yefry Ramirez from Orioles
The Pittsburgh Pirates addressed their pitching depth by acquiring right-hander Yefry Ramirez from the Baltimore Orioles on Monday in a trade for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Ramirez, whose first name is pronounced “Jeffrey,” will be assigned to Triple-A Indianapolis. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Pirates designated right-handed pitcher Jesus Liranzo for assignment.
The 25-year-old Ramirez has a 1-10 record with a 6.07 ERA and 1.59 WHIP in 13 career starts for the Orioles. He was 1-8 with a 5.92 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in 2018 and 0-2 with a 6.97 ERA and 1.94 WHIP this season. Ramirez doesn’t become eligible for arbitration until 2022.
