Two more members of the Pittsburgh Pirates’ 2024 draft class were signed Wednesday: left-handed pitcher Jacob Bimbi and center fielder Andrew Patrick.
Bimbi, chosen in the 11th round out of Western Kentucky, went 4-2 over 15 outings (14 starts), leading the Hilltoppers with 71 strikeouts in 54 2/3 innings last season.
The 6-foot, 185-pound southpaw played a season (2023) at Tennessee and the prior year at Wabash Valley Community College (Ill.), where he earned 2022 Great Rivers Conference Co-Pitcher of the Year honors with an 11-1 record and 1.49 ERA.
Patrick, a 17th-round pick out of Wright State (Ohio), hit .244 with eight homers and 24 RBIs as a junior while leading his team in stolen bases (17). He was limited to 34 games because of injury.
In 2023, Patrick was named first-team All-Horizon League, batting .326 with 21 doubles, 20 homers and 59 RBIs as a sophomore. He is 6-4, 195 pounds and bats right-handed.
Both players were assigned to the Florida Complex League.
With their signings, the Pirates have inked 19 of their 21 selections from the 2024 draft.
Only right-handed pitchers Brian Curley of out Virginia Commonwealth and Taylor Penn (Woodford County High School, Ky.) remain unsigned.
