The Pittsburgh Pirates made a final move before the trading deadline Tuesday when general manager Ben Cherington sent cash considerations to the Toronto Blue Jays for right-handed pitcher Jeremy Beasley.

Immediately upon finalizing the deal, the Pirates optioned Beasley, 26, to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Beasley has spent most of this season with Triple-A Buffalo, compiling a 2-1 record with a 1.89 ERA in 38 innings. He struck out 43 and recorded an 0.82 WHIP while allowing a .153 batting average in 19 appearances, including three starts.

With the Blue Jays this season, the 6-foot-2 Beasley made nine appearances with a 4.80 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 15 innings. He made his final appearance with the Blue Jays on July 27, working one scoreless, hitless inning against the St. Louis Cardinals.

The trade marked the second time in the past 15 months that Beasley, a 30th-round draft choice of the Los Angeles Angels from Clemson in 2017, was traded for cash considerations. The Arizona Diamondbacks traded him to Toronto on April 22, 2o21, a year after he made his major-league debut and spent the rest of the 2020 season on the injured list with a right shoulder injury.

He appeared in eight games for the Blue Jays in 2021, striking out 13 batters in 9⅓ inning of relief. With Double-A New Hampshire and Buffalo that season, he was a combined 4-1 with a 3.86 ERA, 34 strikeouts and a .195 batting average against in 23⅓ innings. He started four of his 20 minor-league games in ‘21.

Overall, he has been traded three times, including a deal in 2020 in which the Angels sent him to the Diamondbacks for pitcher Matt Andriese.

Since the outset of his professional career in 2017, he is 22-17 with three saves, a 3.39 ERA in 327 innings and 333 strikeouts and a .233 batting average. Of his 107 games, he started 50 at the minor league level.
