Pirates second baseman Adam Frazier named Gold Glove finalist
In his first season as a full-time starter, Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman Adam Frazier impressed with his defense.
The 27-year-old was named a National League Gold Glove Award finalist by Rawlings, along with two other first-time finalists: The Atlanta Braves’ Ozzie Albies and St. Louis Cardinals’ Kolten Wong.
Frazier’s .989 fielding percentage was second to Albies’ .994. Frazier made just six errors in 555 chances over 142 games.
Of the three NL finalists, Wong had the most defensive runs saved with 14. Albies and eight, and Frazier had six.
Pirates left fielder Corey Dickerson won the Gold Glove Award in 2018. Starling Marte won in 2015 and ‘16. As a franchise, the Pirates have won 49 Gold Gloves. Roberto Clemente won 12 straight. Bill Mazeroski (eight) and Jose Lind (one) are the only other second basemen to win it.
Shortstops Jay Bell (one) and Gene Alley (two) are the only other Pirates infielders to win it. The award was first issued in 1957.
